Kraken

Krakens are unfathomably huge creatures that lurk in the depths of the ocean. Though it is not quite known if a kraken attack is a way for it to feed, or merely a territorial act of aggression, there are a myriad stories of these beasts emerging from the waters to viscously sink ships of all sizes. No soul who has seen the sea has gone uninitiated of these stories.

These creatures resemble an ungodly rendition of a squid or octopus, with tentacles that stretch ten meters out and are nearly a meter thick. The kraken’s mouth is on the undersize of it’s huge head, and is lined with rows of razor sharp teeth.

Scars

Kraken’s don’t track their stress like other characters. Instead they have scars. The scars track is shared between all parts of the kraken. Scars cannot be removed in any way, even between scenes. When stress is dealt to any part of the kraken, and there are no open scar checkboxes that can absorb the stress, the kraken is killed (and therefore taken out).

Causing scars

If an attack is successful by less than 4 shifts, no scar stress is dealt. Instead, the character who attacked successfully gains a boost. If an attack is successful by 4 or more shifts, subtract 3 from the number of shifts and deal that as stress to the kraken’s scar track.

Head and Tentacles

This character block represents the kraken’s head. The kraken also begins each scene with eight tentacles (see below). They move and act independently of the head, immediately after the head acts.

Swimming titan

On its turn, the kraken’s head may move up to two zones without any additional rolls, instead of the usual one zone. If the kraken’s head does move, it may automatically create or remove the Submerged aspect on itself for free.

Gargantuan

The kraken’s head is massive. While it is not Submerged, it is considered to be its own zone that characters can move in or out of. If it becomes Submerged, any character on the kraken’s head is deposited into the water where the kraken went under.

Scarring tentacles

Attacks to the kraken’s tentacles use the scars mechanic described above. Additionally, when a tentacle is scarred it is taken out for the remainder of the scene.

The kraken’s reach

On its turn, a kraken’s tentacle can move to any zone within two zones of the head. If it does move, it may automatically create or remove the Submerged aspect on itself for free.

Crush the fodder

If a kraken’s tentacle attacks a mook with a Blunt Force Trauma (Fight) attack, it instead targets all of the mooks in the zone. Only one mook may defend, and the attack takes out one mook for each shift of success. Additionally, when a kraken’s tentacle attacks a non-mook character, it may automatically take out one mook character in the same zone.

Fling

When a tentacle deals stress to a character with a Blunt Force Trauma (Fight) attack, it may forgo dealing that stress to instead move the targeted character that many zones in one direction
